Why build a website

A look into the past... now what?

So you want to be on the internet, eh? Why? It's not that silly of a question... really! Of course you know why you want to develop a web site. But somehow, putting it down in words is not quite so easy as one might think. Every successful site in existence has spent a great deal of time answering that very question: Why do you want a web site? What do you want it to do? Many other businesses are fairly unclear on this issue as well. They jumped on the internet bandwagon and put up a site and they still don't know their real goals. But they have a web site! Cool... but what does it accomplish again?

Clear goals and purpose before you build your site can make all the difference. Clear goals are the difference between success and failure. So, since you are going to all this work to build a web site, why not make it a successful one?

The key is to know the goal(s) you are going after and then make sure everything on your site works to accomplish that goal. There are four main reasons that organizations have web sites: 1) build brand awareness, 2) make money, 3) save money, and 4) customer service and support. All of these goals are highly attainable on the internet. Let's explore each goal more carefully. >>
